Menstrual pain

The disappearance or reduction of menstrual pain after administration of maslin leaf extract can be explained by several physiological and biochemical mechanisms, taking into account the active compounds in the leaf (especially oleuropein, hydroxytyrosol and other polyphenols).

1. Powerful anti-inflammatory effect

  • Painful menstruation (dysmenorrhea) is linked to increased production of proinflammatory prostaglandins (PGE2, PGF2α) in the endometrium.

3. Improvement of microcirculation

  • The polyphenols in the leaf have a vasodilator and antiplatelet effect, which can increase local blood flow and reduce uterine ischemia (a major cause of pain in dysmenorrhea).
  • Better blood flow means less accumulation of painful metabolites.

4. Possible indirect hormone-regulating effect

  • There is no evidence that maslin leaf acts directly on oestrogen or progesterone, but the systemic anti-inflammatory effect and liver protection may optimize sex hormone metabolism.
  • Efficient liver metabolism can reduce hormonal imbalances that favor inflammation and menstrual pain.

5. Decrease oxidative stress

  • In dysmenorrhea, local oxidative stress aggravates inflammation and nerve sensitivity.
  • The powerful antioxidants in maslin leaf neutralize free radicals, reducing nociceptive sensitivity.

Maslin leaf extract reduces menstrual pain not through a direct "anesthetic" effect, but by calming inflammation, reducing excessive uterine contractions and improving circulation, mechanisms similar to those of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, but without their digestive side effects.
