Why is there discussion about the gut and toxic load in autism spectrum disorders?

Children with autism spectrum disorders may have leaky gut and imbalances in the intestinal bacterial flora.

At the same time, several studies have reported that children with autism spectrum disorders have higher concentrations of heavy metals in their bodies.

What could PMA zeolite do?

PMA zeolite could:

  • adsorb heavy metals, ammonia, and microbial toxins (associated with neuro-immune inflammation).
  • reduce oxidative stress and protect the intestinal barrier, which could have indirect effects on behavioral symptoms.

What does a pilot study say? (Croatia, 2016)

A small pilot study conducted in Croatia (2016) on children with autism spectrum disorders who received PMA zeolite:

  • Showed a slight improvement in behavior, language, and social interaction, according to parents.
  • No significant adverse reactions were observed.
  • The study was small (under 50 children), without placebo and without double-blind design, so the results are not considered conclusive.

Experiences reported by parents

I have received many messages from parents who administered Zeolit Spectrum (which is PMA) to their children, with very good results.

Here is just one example:

“I started giving my almost 6-year-old daughter zeolite in March, 2 capsules per day.

I noticed results after the first 3 weeks. She became so “present,” started speaking more and answering my questions, even complex ones, when I asked why! because….

She plays with children at school, runs to them and says ‘my friends.’ She lost her fear, we went to the dentist, to the hairdresser to cut her hair, and she was so focused and obedient, she who before wouldn’t even enter the door and would start screaming and crying. There are many aspects that appeared and improved considerably. You wouldn’t even think she was ever suspected of autism spectrum disorder.”

Dosage and administration period (approximate)

Regarding dosages and administration period:

  • Up to 5 years: one capsule per day
  • Between 5 and 10 years: 2 capsules per day
  • Between 10 and 15 years: 3 capsules per day
  • Between 15 and 18 years: 4 capsules per day

Maximum results are obtained after 6 months. Continue administration, at least in cycles of 3 months with 3 months break.

Administration if the child does not swallow capsules

If the child does not swallow capsules, they can be opened and the powder inside can be mixed into water or food.

If using powder, one capsule is equivalent to a heaping teaspoon.

Other useful measures (diet and inflammation)

1) Limiting sugar consumption

Limit sugar consumption for the following reasons:

  • Effects on the gut microbiome – Refined sugar (especially excess glucose and fructose) feeds opportunistic bacteria and fungi (e.g., Candida albicans), which can disrupt microbiome balance. Many children and adults with autism spectrum disorders have marked intestinal dysbiosis and inflammation.
  • Gut-brain connection – Dysbiosis and intestinal inflammation can lead to the release of inflammatory substances (cytokines, lipopolysaccharides) that cross the blood-brain barrier and may influence behavior, mood, and cognitive function (the “gut-brain axis” theory).
  • Large blood sugar fluctuations – Hyperactivity, irritability, and attention problems can be worsened by sudden blood sugar spikes followed by rapid drops.
  • Possible impact on neuroinflammation – Excess sugar is pro-inflammatory through mechanisms related to oxidative stress and advanced protein glycation.

➡ What is preferable: instead of refined sugar, complex carbohydrates are recommended (vegetables, root vegetables, gluten-free pseudocereals) and, if a sweet taste is needed, a little raw honey or dates in small amounts.

2) Avoiding refined “vegetable” oils

Avoid refined “VEGETABLE” OILS for the following reasons:

  • By “vegetable oils” I mean oils rich in inflammatory omega-6 and industrially refined, such as: refined sunflower oil, corn, soy, rapeseed, safflower. Reasons:
  • Imbalanced omega-6 / omega-3 ratio – These oils are very high in linoleic acid (omega-6). Excess omega-6 promotes synthesis of pro-inflammatory prostaglandins and cytokines, increasing neuroinflammation, a mechanism involved in autism spectrum disorders.
  • Oxidation and free radicals – Refined vegetable oils are unstable at heat and oxidize easily, producing toxic aldehydes that can affect cell and neuronal membranes.
  • Impact on neuronal membranes – The brain is highly dependent on good quality polyunsaturated fatty acids. Excess omega-6 alters cell membrane fluidity and may interfere with neurotransmission.

➡ What is preferable:

Healthy fats: extra virgin olive oil (cold-pressed), cold-pressed coconut oil (in moderate amounts), butter or ghee (if no lactose/casein intolerance).

3) Omega-3 supplementation

Omega-3 supplementation, because it has anti-inflammatory effects and supports brain development.

Omega-3 is found in wild-caught fatty fish (wild salmon, sardines, mackerel, tuna).
