Children with autism may have a leaky gut and imbalances in their intestinal bacterial flora.

At the same time, several studies have reported that children with autism have been found to have higher concentrations of heavy metals in their bodies.

PMA zeolite could:

  • adsorb heavy metals, ammonia and microbial toxins (associated with neuro-immune inflammation).
  • reduce oxidative stress and protect the intestinal barrier, which may have indirect effects on behavioral symptoms.

A small pilot study conducted in Croatia (2016) on children with autism who received PMA zeolite:

  • It showed a slight improvement in behavior, language and social interaction, according to the parents.
  • No significant side effects were observed.
  • The study was small (less than 50 children), without placebo and without double-blind, so the results are not considered conclusive.

I have received many messages from parents who have given their children Zeolit Spectrum (which is PMA) with very good results.

Here is just one example:

"I started giving my almost 6-year-old daughter zeolite, 2 capsules a day, in March.
I noticed the results after the first 3 weeks. She became so "present", she started talking even more and answering my questions, even complex questions, when I asked her why! because ....
She plays with kids at school, runs up to them and says my friends. She lost her fear, I went with her to
Dentist, to the barber, to get her hair cut and she was so centered and obedient, she who before wouldn't even walk through the door and start screaming and crying. There are several issues that have come up that have improved considerably. You wouldn't even think she was ever suspected of autism."

About dosage and period of administration:

  • up to 5 years: one capsule a day
  • between 5 and 10 years: 2 capsules a day
  • between 10 and 15 years: 3 capsules a day
  • between 15 and 18 years: 4 capsules a day

Maximum results are obtained after 6 months. Continue to administer at least 3-month courses with a 3-month break.

If the child does not swallow the capsules, they can be broken open and the powder inside can be put in water or food.

If using powder, one capsule is equivalent to one teaspoon.

Other useful measures are:

1. Limit sugar consumption, for the following reasons:

  • Effects on the gut microbiome - Refined sugar (especially excess glucose and fructose) feeds opportunistic bacteria and fungi (e.g. Candida albicans), which can alter the balance of the microbiome. However, in many children and adults with autism, increased intestinal dysbiosis and intestinal inflammation have been observed.
  • Gut-brain link - Gut dysbiosis and inflammation can lead to the release of inflammatory substances (cytokines, lipopolysaccharides) that cross the blood-brain barrier and can influence behavior, mood and cognitive function (gut-brain axis theory).
  • Large fluctuations in blood glucose - Hyperactivity, irritability and attention problems can be exacerbated by sudden spikes in blood glucose followed by rapid drops.
  • Possible impact on neuroinflammation - Excess sugar is pro-inflammatory through mechanisms related to oxidative stress and advanced protein glycosylation.

➡ What's preferable: instead of refined sugar, complex carbohydrates (vegetables, root vegetables, gluten-free pseudocereals) and, if you need a sweet taste, a little raw honey or dates, in small quantities.

2. Avoid refined "VEGETAL" OILS, for the following reasons:

  • When we say "vegetable oils" I mean oils rich in inflammatory omega-6 and industrially refined, such as: refined sunflower oil, corn, soybean, rapeseed, sofranel. Reasons:
  • Imbalanced omega-6 / omega-3 ratio - These oils are very rich in linoleic acid (omega-6). Excess omega-6 favors the synthesis of prostaglandins and pro-inflammatory cytokines, accentuating neuroinflammation, a mechanism involved in autism.
  • Oxidation and free radicals - Refined vegetable oils are unstable to heat and oxidize easily, producing toxic aldehydes that can damage cell membranes and neuronal membranes.
  • Impact on neuronal membrane - The brain is highly dependent on good quality polyunsaturated fatty acids. Excess omega-6 alters cell membrane fluidity and may interfere with neurotransmission.

➡ What's preferable:

Healthy fats: extra-virgin olive oil (cold-pressed), cold-pressed coconut oil (in moderate amounts), butter or ghee (if there is no lactose/cazein intolerance).

3. Taking omega-3, because it has anti-inflammatory effect and supports brain development.

Omega-3 is found in fatty fish (wild salmon, sardines, mackerel)
