SIBO stands for Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth, or bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine.
In short, it is a situation in which bacteria that should normally stay more in the large intestine (colon) start to colonize the small intestine - where there shouldn't be many bacteria.

🔬 What actually happens:
Normally, the small intestine has a very small amount of bacteria, because:

  • stomach acids destroy them,
  • bile and pancreatic enzymes limit them,
  • and the bowel movements (motility) "sweep" them towards the colon.

When something goes wrong - for example:

  • slow digestion,
  • low stomach acid,
  • motility disorders (e.g. after infections, diabetes, chronic stress),
  • surgery,
  • prolonged consumption of proton pump inhibitors (omeprazole, esomeprazole),
    - bacteria migrate and multiply in the small intestine.

🦠 What symptoms appear:

  • bloating after meals (sometimes extreme, the abdomen "swollen" like a balloon),
  • gas, belching, gas, gas, abdominal discomfort or pain,
  • loose stools or alternating diarrhea/constipation,
  • fatigue, brain fog,
  • nutritional deficiencies (vitamin B12, iron, magnesium).

Naturist protocol:

Phase 1 - Antimicrobial (4-6 weeks):

  • Berberine 500 mg 2-3 times/day, after meals
  • May be combined with: oregano, neem or allicin (garlic) extracts for a synergistic effect
  • Temporarily avoid fermentable (fruits, vegetables) and fermented foods (kefir, yogurt, pickles, etc.).

Phase 2 - Recovery (2 weeks):

  • Probiotic
  • Digestive support: pancreatic enzymes + ginger for motility
  • Balanced diet, with regular meals and breaks in between (no frequent snacks)
  • Zeolit Spectrum, 3 capsules in the morning and 3 in the evening: start with 1 capsule on the first day and increase by 1 capsule every day. Drink 2 liters of water daily.

⚠️ Warning
Berberine may interact with some drugs (antidiabetics, anticoagulants) and is not recommended in pregnancy or in people with severe liver disease.
Always consult a specialist before use.
