How does AHCC® work?

AHCC works by modulating the innate and adaptive immune systems. Research has shown that it can increase the activity of NK (Natural Killer) cells, specialized cells that identify and eliminate abnormal cells and infectious agents.

Additionally, AHCC influences the activity of T lymphocytes, dendritic cells, and certain receptors involved in communication between different components of the immune system. Through these mechanisms, the body can more efficiently coordinate its immune response and maintain its natural defense capacity.

Unlike classic extracts from medicinal mushrooms, which predominantly contain high molecular weight beta-glucans, AHCC mainly contains low molecular weight alpha-glucans obtained through a patented fermentation process. A study published in 2024 demonstrated that AHCC inhibits the activation of hepatic stellate cells, considered the main driver of the liver fibrosis process. Research published in Frontiers in Immunology (2022), conducted by Hong Jai-Park and colleagues, showed that administering AHCC together with dual CTLA-4/PD-1 blockade in experimental colorectal cancer models significantly reduced tumor volume and increased activation of CD8+ T lymphocytes involved in the antitumor immune response.
