Description
Liposomal Boswellia + AKBA – support for joints, tendons, ligaments, and inflammatory balance
Boswellia serrata is a plant extract obtained from the resin of the Indian frankincense tree, traditionally used to support joint and connective tissue health. The main active compounds are boswellic acids, substances studied for their role in modulating the body's physiological inflammatory response.
Liposomal Boswellia + AKBA provides liposomal Boswellia serrata extract with a standardized supply of AKBA — Acetyl-11-keto-beta-boswellic acid — one of the most important bioactive fractions of Boswellia. The formula is intended to support joint comfort, mobility, tendons, and ligaments, especially in contexts of mechanical stress, physical effort, or joint stiffness.
How does liposomal Boswellia + AKBA help you?
- Supports the body's physiological inflammatory response.
- Contributes to maintaining joint comfort and mobility.
- Supports tendon and ligament health.
- Supports connective tissue recovery after effort or repeated strain.
- May contribute to reducing joint stiffness as part of an active lifestyle.
- Helps maintain flexibility and freedom of movement.
- Contains standardized AKBA, one of the most active fractions of Boswellia extract.
- May support the comfort of knees, hips, shoulders, and spine.
- Useful during periods of physical overexertion, sports, long walking, or repetitive effort.
- Can be combined with curcumin, collagen, vitamin D3, omega-3, or magnesium.
- The liposomal form is designed for optimized bioavailability.
- Suitable for vegans and vegetarians.
How do Boswellia and AKBA work?
Boswellia serrata contains boswellic acids, natural compounds that affect several biological pathways involved in inflammation. The best known is the 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX) pathway, involved in the production of leukotrienes, mediators that can participate in the inflammatory response.
AKBA, short for Acetyl-11-keto-beta-boswellic acid, is considered one of the most potent bioactive fractions of Boswellia. By influencing 5-LOX and other inflammatory mechanisms, AKBA can help maintain joint comfort and mobility.
Unlike classic anti-inflammatory drugs, Boswellia does not act through the same main mechanism on COX-1/COX-2 but mainly by modulating leukotrienes and other inflammatory pathways. For this reason, it is frequently used in supplements aimed at joints, tendons, ligaments, and connective tissues.
Liposomal technology uses phospholipids similar to cell membranes, designed to protect active compounds and support their effective use at the tissue level. In the case of Boswellia, this is important because boswellic acids may have variable absorption in conventional forms.
What do the studies show?
Boswellia serrata is one of the most studied plants for joint health, especially in the context of osteoarthritis. Research has evaluated the effects of standardized Boswellia extracts on pain, stiffness, mobility, and joint function. The results are promising, but the product should be regarded as a dietary supplement, not a treatment for diseases.
A double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study published in Arthritis Research & Therapy (2008) evaluated an AKBA-enriched Boswellia serrata extract in patients with knee osteoarthritis. The results showed improvements in pain, stiffness, and joint function.

A pilot study published in BMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine (2019) showed that administering a standardized Boswellia serrata extract improved physical function and reduced pain and stiffness in people with joint discomfort.

A meta-analysis published in BMC Complementary Medicine and Therapies (2020) reviewed clinical studies on Boswellia and Boswellia extracts in patients with osteoarthritis. The authors concluded that Boswellia may have beneficial effects on pain, stiffness, and joint function.

An analysis published in Indian Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences (2011) described the anti-inflammatory mechanisms of Boswellia serrata, including the role of boswellic acids and AKBA in modulating 5-lipoxygenase and inflammatory mediators.

Why did I choose this product?
There are many supplements on the market that promise spectacular results, but the differences between them can be significant. When selecting products for my store, I always follow a few essential criteria: ingredient quality, the existence of relevant scientific studies, the manufacturer's reliability, and transparency regarding the product's composition.
I do not choose products based solely on marketing or popularity. I prefer formulas made by manufacturers who use standardized ingredients, modern manufacturing technologies, and provide clear information about the concentrations of active substances.
This is one of the reasons why I included this product in the Doctor Cip selection. I believe it offers a very good balance between ingredient quality, modern formulation, and the scientific evidence available to date.
Of course, no dietary supplement can replace a healthy lifestyle, a balanced diet, and the treatments recommended by a doctor when necessary. However, when used correctly and in the right context, supplements can be a valuable support for health.

Întrebări frecvente
What is AKBA and why is its concentration important in Boswellia extract?
AKBA is one of the most important bioactive fractions of Boswellia serrata extract. It is studied for its ability to influence 5-lipoxygenase, an enzyme involved in the production of leukotrienes, mediators of the inflammatory response. For this reason, an extract standardized in AKBA is considered more valuable than a generic Boswellia extract.
Is this supplement effective for acute or chronic joint pain?
Boswellia serrata is primarily studied for supporting joint comfort and mobility over the medium and long term. Most clinical studies have been conducted on people with osteoarthritis and other chronic joint conditions, where regular administration of Boswellia extract has been associated with improved joint comfort and physical function. Unlike traditional painkillers, Boswellia is not intended to provide an immediate effect. Benefits usually appear gradually over several weeks of consistent use, as it influences the mechanisms involved in the inflammatory response. In cases of acute joint pain caused by trauma, accidents, or severe inflammation, medical evaluation and adherence to the prescribed treatment are important. Boswellia can be used as part of a general strategy to support joint health but does not replace medical consultation and prescribed treatments. For people with chronic joint discomfort, osteoarthritis, morning stiffness, or repeated mechanical overuse, consistent use for at least 4–8 weeks is usually the period during which the most relevant benefits can be observed.
Does Boswellia interact with nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)?
Currently, there is no solid evidence indicating major interactions between Boswellia serrata and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen, naproxen, diclofenac, or ketoprofen. However, since both Boswellia and NSAIDs affect pathways involved in the inflammatory response, caution is advised when used together for extended periods.
In some clinical studies, Boswellia extracts have been administered alongside conventional treatments for joint conditions without major safety issues. Nevertheless, individual responses may vary, and the presence of other conditions or treatments can alter the safety profile.
If you frequently use NSAIDs, anticoagulants, antiplatelet agents, or other medications prescribed for chronic conditions, it is recommended to consult your doctor or pharmacist before starting Boswellia.
Boswellia is primarily used as a dietary supplement to support joint health and comfort and should not be considered a substitute for treatments recommended by a physician.
